Building MLB Dashboard in Palantir Foundry

Palantir Foundry (Link) is a new software platform that provides low code environments to get applications up and running fast. There are several LLMs built in to help you along the way.

The basics are

  • Bring in your data (Can just upload if you’d like)
  • Build pipeline to clean/transform your data
  • Output of pipeline backs an Ontology
  • Ontologies back applications/dashboards

Will not bore you with the details here. What does this have to do with baseball? Well, I think dashboards are very powerful tools that can be utilized by stakeholders to get the information they need quickly. Foundry allows you to quickly develop these dashboards.

I’ve been using Foundry for work related things but wanted to see how quickly I could get an application together for baseball.

I downloaded July 1, 2026 data from Baseball Savant. I actually told an AI agent what I wanted on this dashboard and it included:

  • Pitcher vs Batter Matchup Data
  • Pitch Distribution
  • Batter Scouting Report
  • Pitcher Splits

Was it perfect? Absolutely not, but it did a pretty good job of making the visuals. Had to do a little manual editing but the AI agent did most of the work here and only took a couple hours. The AI agent also understood the game of baseball and it understood the baseball terminology I used.

Foundry is an up and coming platform that I think will be used more and more. Their value proposition is the low code environment to get an end to end application done faster. There are several problems I’ve encountered and it definitely feels like a beta at times but the hope is that it continues to improve.

A caveat to this is I could do this with ggplot and RShiny, but I don’t think it would look so good. I definitely do not have knowledge about HTML and Javascript. As a data scientist, Foundry allows us to focus on the data part and it takes care of the application piece.

Foundry has a free account that allows you to make some things. However, it can get expensive if you are using a lot of compute. Also, one day it may not be free at all. I always believe in using open source free software and encourage you to as well.

Can request access to the dashboard here if you have an account.
